With my second child I was due July 26th, 2001. On the 25th at around 6:00pm I started getting consistent contractions, although at the time I thought they were just braxton hicks because they were not painful. However, I remembered that I thought the same with my first so I called my Mom to let her know that I might be in labor. I also called my Husband and let him know, he made it home from work in record time, LOL. At around 9:00pm I lost my mucus plug but my contractions were still not painful so I decided I better go to bed.
At around 10:30 pm I awoke to very strong painful contractions. I called my Mom and told her she better come right away. Because it was going to take her 3 hours, I called my sister who lived closer to come and help out. My sister got to my house around 12:00am and I at that time I really started to feel the urge to push, but I tried to wait in case I had the cervical lip again. My Mom got to to my house around 1:45 am and checked me and sure enough I had the cervical lip, AGAIN. It was frustrating for me because even though I wanted to push I couldn't because I had to wait, ugh. Finally around 2:45 I was able to push, again just a few pushes and he was out. His cord was around his neck too, but like my first my mom just slipped it off as the head was coming out. He was born at 2:50 am July 26th; exactly on my due date!!!! He was a big boy, 9lbs 4oz and 21 inches long. Honestly for me it felt no different pushing out a baby that was 3 lbs bigger than my first, I figured it would be more painful but it wasn't :-) This labor went pretty fast and I am sure that if it wasn't for that cervical lip it would have been way faster. I am very blessed in that fact that up until I am about 7 or 8 centimeters dilated my labors are pretty painless, but after that the pain hits me like a truck ;-)
Here is a picture of my sweet soon to be 6 yr old boy:

That sounds like my 3rd baby! She was my biggest baby at 8# 7oz. and she was my easiest delivery!
I may be posting my birth stories soon! I am a few weeks behind you in my pregnancy, but I can remember when you posted that you were expecting.
(I am the person who asked for you sprouted grain bread recipe...the bread that you buy at the whole foods store...many months back. I actually found a recipe but haven't had time to make it yet.)
Enjoying reading your birth stories!
Blessings!
Heather
I had a lip with each of my four, but I did very small pushes and the lip would disapear within minutes. I too would now have much discomfort until transition, then boom! I had a painless transition with my 3rd born - I wish I remembered that with my 4th, but transition snuck up on me - I jumped from 3 centimeters to 9.5 in less than an hour. :-)
Anyhow, in transition with my 3rd born, I was holding combs in my hands for "pain control," when God told me "you know, it doesn't have to hurt. Let go of the combs and trust Me." I let go of the combs and went totally limp.
Hubby watched it, and said it looked like I went into some "mediative state." I felt my cervix open the rest of the way, but it didn't hurt!
I don't recall if you've said this before - is your mother a midwife, or just good at this sort of thing?
With my four, it was hubby and I, unassisted. With your mother there, that's the same flavor, since she's family - that is very cool. :-)
My first labor was 17.5 hours of labor, with 3.5 hours of it being pushing. Baby was posterior, but turned into the proper position when I was pushing. His head didn't mold much, and consequently he had the biggest head of all my children.
I had trouble fitting him past my hips, so I got into a deep squat. This opened my hips, and he dropped right down, and was soon born.
I had a left labial lasceration. I stayed in bed for about a week, and the cut healed just fine. It's really hard to find the scar anymore. :-)
I didn't tear with my others.
My other births were all around 5 hours, with 20 or so minutes of pushing.
The cord was around the neck on my first three, but not my last.
Hubby had to break my waters on baby's 1, 3, and 4. Baby number 2's broke at nine centimeters, all over hubby. :-D
Thank you for sharing your birth stories, I love reading them!
