Welcome soon to be fellow textbooker =) LOL.

Switching has been really nice. I loved all the literature curriculum we used but our season in homeschooling is using textbooks.

I enjoyed reading Managing Your Homeschool too. It was nice to read about another family who can see the positive side of textbooks.

When I first saw that they had the homeschool book I had no idea it was about how they used textbook so it was a wonderful surprise when I read it. I new they used textbooks but didn't know that the majority of their book was going to be about them.

Can you tell it's late and I should be in bed. I'm rambling in circles.

Oh, and about the computer; I have done the same thing so many times. Giving the kids something to do or the whole "in a minute, just one minute" than an hour passed by and I feel guilty.

I have actually been doing better these days. I was getting a bit out of hand. My kiddos always new where to find mom. :(

About R&S and Abeka; that's a tough one. I love R&S but I know it's not for everyone. Their reading & phonics programs are wonderful and you can do some of it orally if it's too much writing.

You might want to try R&S since you can get it a good price and if it doesn't work for you than it's not like you paid a lot of money for it.

Will you be receiving the Social Studies also? If not you can always use Abeka for the early years, since they focus more on American History.

Next year I plan on using Bob Jones Heritage Studies because of the U.S. History focus. If all goes well, I will use it through fifth grade than switch back to R&S Geography/History because I like the way they present the ancient times.

Anyway I better get off this computer.

Blessings,
Linda<><

Hi, just reading your other comment and not sure if you might be interested. We use Abeka curriculum and this year I decided to try some rod and staff mixed in, and after receiving their books I knew it probably wouldn't work. So if you are interested I have the entire 3rd grade rod and staff english/tests and reading/tests. Blessings!

Hey again Amity! First wanted to tell you I enjoy your blog and the cute photos of your family too! We really like Abeka. My oldest boys are now using the third grade curriculum and we have used it since kindergarten, and it is great for us. We use apologia science is our only variance from the curriculum. We tried r&s at the beginning of this year for english and it is about equal to maybe 1st or 2nd grade abeka is what we found. My boys could zip through it no problem and it wasnt challenging them. The reason I really like r&s is how they use everything from the bible whereas abeka is more "schoolish" and has more occasional scripture/biblical references if you know what I mean? I really wanted a curriculum more bible centered. So all that to say, we really like abeka here at the Cunningham household, but I am using the r&s third grade bible reading series so I feel they are getting more biblical instruction during their school time too. That way when we have family devotion time or anything like that, it isn't their only biblical exposure:-) anywho, my two cents worth. Hope you are having a great day! Bless you
